Most rescued dogs came from a horrible past. Most of them were abused and neglected at some point in their lives that these dogs become scared of people. Even after the dogs get rescued and placed in a safe environment, it takes some time for them to adjust.
Some dogs are so traumatized that they are not able to recover and are eventually put to sleep. A 3-year-old Chihuahua named Starling is a rescue dog that was so scared that she would literally tremble or shake when people come near her. The first day that little Starling went to her foster home, she refused to get out of her cage.
Starling’s foster mom, Alyssa Stepien, had to take Starling’s cage apart so she could get her out. Even when Starling is already in a safe and loving environment, she was still afraid of people and would often refuse to move.
Alyssa knew that it would take some time for her to make Starling realize that she’s finally safe. Alyssa was always very gentle and patient with Starling, and she showered her with love. Alyssa’s own dog, Oliver, sat by Starling’s crate, showing and assuring Starling that there’s nothing to be afraid of.
By the 10th day, Starling finally started to come out of her shell and show her sweet and loving personality. Starling eventually realized that she’s already in a safe environment. She started going on walks and learned that most things aren’t that bad.
On the 15th day, Starling started showing her belly and asked Alyssa for belly rubs. Alyssa’s finally ready to be adopted. On the 20th day, Starling finally had people interested in adopting her.
Everyone in Starling’s new family is in love with her. Alyssa’s sure that Starling’s finally in a safe and loving environment where she will never have any reason to fear anything again. Here’s a remarkable and heartwarming video showing Starling’s progress from a terrified to become a happy and fun-loving pooch.
