It is sad that there are so many animals that are abandoned by people and the animals have to find a way to live on their own. There are so many people who irresponsibly get rid of their pets. A lot of these people don’t even take the time to take the animals to a shelter.
One very nice lady tried to take it upon herself to help when she witnessed an act of animal abandonment. A very nice lady from San Antonio witnessed a woman removing four of her family dogs from a car in an empty lot in a neighborhood. The woman confronted the animal abuse offender. While recording the incident the woman very politely and calmly explains to the woman that instead of abandoning her dogs she can drop them off as strays at Animal Care Services. She also lets her know that the service is free.

The Samaritan then gives the lady the address to Animal Care Services and directions on how to get there from where they are currently.
She explains that others like her who foster animals are responsible for caring for dogs that people abandon. She explains that she has to take time away from her family to care for these dogs that people simply decide that they don’t want anymore. You can hear the slight frustration in her voice.
The woman basically ignores her and continues removing the dogs from the car. The Samaritan then explains the consequences of her actions. She explains that it is a $500 fine per dog that is abandoned.
The woman is clearly having trouble removing the dogs from the car. The dogs aren’t interested in getting out. And once they are out of the car they show very little interest in moving away from the lady.
The Good Samaritan makes one last plea, and explains that the dogs don’t know how to fend for themselves. The woman finally pushes the last two dogs quickly out of the car and slams the door. The car immediately backs up out of the lot at a fairly high rate of speed.
As the car drives away in one last unbelievable act of callousness a passenger in the backseat of the car shoots a bird at the lady.
While the dogs have been abandoned they are probably better off not being with this family.
Local police were notified about the dogs. Three of the dogs were apprehended quickly, but the fourth dog was unable to be found. The last dog was found thanks to the help from the former owner. All of the dogs were delivered to a local dog shelter. The dog’s former owner then turned herself in to the police.
In the state of Texas a person that is convicted of abandoning a dog could be sentenced to up to a year in jail and receive up to a $4,000 fine.
It’s unfortunate, but all of this could have easily been avoided had the lady simply listened to the good citizen and taken the dogs on a short drive to the Animal Care Services facility.
