Yolanda Sevogia, a mother of a special needs man, did not think she would become a mom to a furball until her neighbor, Stacey Savige, visited her and asked if she could look after a Terrier. Stacey found the dog wandering around the local elementary school. Yolanda obliged though advised Stacey that she can only do so for only one day as she has things to attend to as well.
The two of them then took pictures of the dog and printed out flyers with the dog’s photo. They also sent some of these flyers to mailboxes in the neighborhood and even placed an ad on Craigslist in hopes of finding the owner of the lost Terrier.
As they were waiting for any favorable response, Yolanda took the dog in for the meantime. She also bought some pet supplies to ensure the Terrier was taken good care of while they wait for an owner to claim the dog. She reminded her 10-year old son Azaiah and Christian, to not invest too much on the dog as she was looking for its owner.
At that time, Yolanda’s 21-year old son, Christian, was diagnosed with Down syndrome and other ailments. Her son has undergone heart and kidney surgeries because of this.
Four days after, Yolanda was still taking care of the dog and already gave it the name Raelee. As she arrived from work, she noticed the dog was frantically trying to get to her through the screen door. As soon as she entered her home, Raelee immediately rushed into the boys’ room, where Yolanda found Christian having seizures.
Raelee calmed down as soon as Yolanda attended to her son. She recalled that if she had been late by a few more minutes, Christian could have choked on his blood and died. Days went by, and no one was still contacting them, so Yolanda decided to keep the dog.
However, Yolanda’s friend, Stacey, got a phone call from a man named Randy, who recognized his lost dog through the flyers that they had sent before. She was heartbroken, telling Randy that the dog saved her friend’s son’s life. Raelee’s original owner drove to Yolanda’s place and saw how gloomy the children were when they learned that the owner had found the dog. Randy had a change of heart, stating that they can keep Odie, his Terrier, as it must have been fate for them to encounter the beloved dog.
